The inclement weather has taken its toll on the Tucville Ground forcing a one week postponement of the annual Mayor’s Cup Knockout Football Tournament from Friday January 23 to Friday January 30.
Executive coordinator Lennox Arthur bemoaned this new development and consequently apologizes to football fans. He said that after talking with the various teams he concluded that the inclement weather was indeed having a negative effect on their preparations. He said also that the Tucville Ground, the venue for the tournament, is in a soggy state and the caretakers will be required to effect repairs to the surface if it should be in a fit state to accommodate matches.
Meanwhile, Arthur also intimated that in keeping with the mandate of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), teams are allowed to register up to 4 loan players for representation.
The postponement has also affected the fixtures. Clashing on the opening night in what is billed as a Linden / Georgetown clash will be Bakewell Topp XX against Georgetown Football Club and BK International Western Tigers takes on Milerock.
On Sunday February 1, Bakewell Buxton Stars oppose Uprising while Fruta Conquerors matches skills with BV Triumph United.
The other match day are as follows; Friday February 6: GDF vs. Golden Grove and Pele vs. Victoria Kings. Sunday February 8- Alpha United vs. Uitvlugt and Camptown vs. Pouderoyen. The respective winners will advance to the quarter finals.
