Defending champions Hikers led by a six-goal effort from Devin Munroe hammered Ontario United (2)10-6 as the Sixth Annual Ventures Invitational Indoor Hockey Tournament continued yesterday, at the Woodbrook Youth Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.
Munroe was in irrepressible form as he slammed in goals in the 10th, 22nd, 23rd, 30th, 38th, and 39th minutes to set the champs off to an impressive start. He got admirable support from Robert France, who netted a double (24th & 29th), guest player Ryan Cowie (31st) and Shawn Boodlall (36th). No scorers were available for the opposition.
Meanwhile, another Guyanese team Old Fort suffered defeat, going down 3-4 to Malvern of T&T.
In all, 24 teams are competing for titles in the Men’s A, Men’s B, Women and Veterans divisions.
Canadian club Ontario United is fielding teams in the Men’s A and Men’s B categories, while Guyanese clubs Everest Hikers (Men’s B) and Old Fort (Men’s A) complete the international representatives in the tournament.
The tournament will end on Sunday, when the semifinals and third place playoffs, as well as Men’s, Women’s and Veterans finals, will be played.
