The Mayor and City Council of Georgetown (M&CC) is set for smooth sailing this year if the current trend of rates and taxes collection persists.
This disclosure was made by the municipality’s Public Relations Officer, Royston King yesterday.
King in an invited comment said that since the start of this year residents have taken on an enthusiastic demeanour towards the paying of taxes, which has boosted the municipality’s ability to handle financial obligations, including the payment of private contractors.
In a release issued yesterday, it was noted that since last Friday (January 2) there has been a modest but steady flow of rate payers at City Hall.
“This is a good thing because citizens are honouring their civic obligations to the city. M&CC wishes to thank all those property owners who have paid up their rates. Many corporations and citizens came forward and settled their accounts…,” the release added.
It was also noted that the payment received assisted the municipality to provide drainage, street lighting, garbage collection, public health and other environmental services to local communities.
The municipality is optimistic that other business and home owners will also emulate the trend and pay up their rates and taxes as well.
Citizens are reminded that the payment of rates and taxes could be done in four instalments with the first quarter being on February 1, the second quarter on April 1, the third quarter July 1 and the fourth quarter on October 1, 2009.
