Another person was arrested on Tuesday last in connection with the cocaine bust in Miami almost a week ago.
Kaieteur News understands that the man, who is a Berbician, was arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit for questioning after his name and Tax Identification Number (TIN) came up in the investigation.
A source told this newspaper that the name which turned up is the name of the person who instructed Nymrod Singh to ship the furniture.
After an intense investigation by CANU and other authorities, the man was subsequently released.
The source further told Kaieteur News that someone improperly used the man’s name along with his TIN number.
The source added that the police must now investigate how someone got that man’s TIN number.
According to the source, a closer inspection must be placed on the custodian of the TIN numbers. Nymrod Singh, the other person, who is still in custody, was held in Bartica last Sunday.
The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit and the police have since moved to the High Court after the stipulated time for detention had elapsed, and were granted an extension seeking to keep Singh in custody.
According to Singh’s attorney, Vic Puran, the defence was not opposing the action, but praised it.
Puran had told this newspaper yesterday that the extension is helping the police to do a “good investigation which would in turn exonerate his client from any wrongdoings”.
He said that Singh has given a full account to the police. On Friday last the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit issued a bulletin for Singh in connection with the Miami drug bust.
CBP officers inspecting containers at the Miami seaport were alerted by a CBP dog to a specific container loaded with furniture.
The officers attached to the Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement team proceeded to examine the furniture. They discovered three packages concealed within one of the pieces of furniture. In all, 194 packages were found concealed in 72 pieces of furniture.
