Just after boasting about the reduction of road fatalities last year, the police have been called upon to investigate the second road death this year.
The victim, 11-year-old Akeen Jaipaul, of Redwood Crescent, Mackenzie, was struck down by a minibus at about 15:45 hours while riding a bicycle on the Sir David Rose Avenue.
Investigations have revealed that minibus BHH 454 was proceeding west on the southern side of the road while Jaipaul was allegedly proceeding in the opposite direction, but on the same southern side of the road.
It is reported that the pedal cyclist attempted to cross the road and was struck down by the vehicle.
He was taken to the Mackenzie Hospital where he died while receiving medical treatment.
The driver of the minibus is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
On Monday, 15-year old Danlley Braithwaite was killed when he was struck by a car on the Number 10 Public Road, West Coast Berbice, becoming the country’s first reported road fatality.
