Police on the East Coast of Demerara have launched an investigation into the discovery of the body of a 35-year-old woman in a canal at Berlin, Mahaica Creek on Sunday afternoon.
The body of Suedicilla Mohan was pulled from the canal at about 17:30 hours by her brothers, who went in search of her after she had disappeared while rounding up the family’s herd of goats.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, Mohan, who is mentally and physically challenged, had left her home in the Mahaica Creek to gather the goats.
When she did not return at the stipulated time, her two brothers went to look for her.
They eventually found her lying in a canal in the area.
It is believed that she fell into the canal and drowned.
However, investigators are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination before ruling out foul play.
