Jan 06, 2009 Letters
Dear Editor,
A happy and prosperous New Year to you and the entire management! It is no coincidence that my first correspondence for 2009 be a positive one.
My letter on Monday, December 15 in this newspaper which issued a special call to President Bharrat Jagdeo concerning no bonuses for teachers this year apparently did its job.
I was afraid that the President was not going to get to read the letter as he was out of the country at the time of publication.
However, I was pleased to see the report in the SN last Monday about the increases for public servants.
Strange, though, that we did not see any other report in the other daily newspapers.
I must openly thank His Excellency for being very understanding of the urgent need for extra cash by public servants.
Whether one agrees or not, this government has delivered and delivered well on its promises even up to year ending December 31, 2008.
They have been working very hard as can be seen on FLOOD-TV (NCN) over the past couple of days. They have given Berbicians the Berbice River Bridge even though now the complaints have begun about the toll which I, too, believe is very, very high.
Surprisingly or not, we still have people opting to use the pathetic ferry service just to avoid paying high tolls, and you can’t blame them. But we appreciate a bridge link to the rest of Guyana.
Thank you, Mr. President. You have demonstrated what a hard working public servant you are in these trying times in Guyana.
