Forty-four-year-old Angela Wilson, of Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, nursing third degree burns to her upper body after being doused with a corrosive substance, believed to be ‘acid,’ by her spurned lover.
Wincing in pain at the hospital, Wilson told Kaieteur News that the incident occurred at about 23:00 hrs at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, on the western side of Demico House.
According to her, she and the assailant shared a relationship, which she described as “purely sexual in nature,’ for more than a year.
She related that the relationship began to go downhill; and recently, she decided that she no longer wanted to be involved with the man, and so informed him of her decision.
He, however, refused to accept it, and threatened to harm her on several occasions.
Recalling how the incident took place, Wilson said that she was walking along the Stabroek Market area when her attacker approached her.
She added that she reiterated that she wanted nothing to do with him, and was heading towards the route 44 bus park when he suddenly pulled a bottle out of his pocket and threw the contents on her. She received severe burns to her face, neck and chest.
“He run away and lef ‘ me screaming for meh life. All I could do was jump in a taxi and head straight to the hospital,” she said.
Her attacker is still at large.
