– asks Sports Ministry for support
In a proactive approach toward ensuring that Guyana participates at the 2009 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships, the Haynes Basketball Foundation (HBF) has arrived at a comprehensive budget.
The document, which covers every aspect of the country’s participation at the biggest basketball forum in the region, was submitted to the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) for ratification.
The senior male and female CBC competition will be announced early February in Saint Lucia following an Annual General Meeting (AGM) where Guyana is expected to send a representative and pay the US$1,000 registration fee.
In 2007, an entire overseas–based team represented Guyana at the competition in Puerto Rico since local players were unable to procure United States visas, which seriously affected Guyana’s results from games.
If the GABF is unable to send a local envoy to the CBC AGM, Larry Davis, who coached the male team in 2007, was recommended. The Haynes Foundation has advised that Davis volunteered to represent the country.
HBF, which acts as the GABF Overseas Agents, has asked the local federation to notify them of their intentions early since Davis will have to make preparations and since the US$1,000 per team is due on February 29.
In addition, HBF believes that the budget ought to be submitted to the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport so that they can be duly apprised of the funds needed for the country’s participation at the 2009 CBC Championships.
