Another chilling discovery was made yesterday morning at Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, by a youth who went in search of a lost cow in the backdam, and instead uncovered a badly decomposed corpse, believed to be that of Leo Alleyne, 46, a taxi driver who was last seen on November 21, 2008.
The discovery of this corpse comes almost three weeks after the dead body of 22-year-old Dexter Alleyne was discovered lying facedown in the mud across the street from his lot 60 Church Street, Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara residence.
The latest corpse in the Stanleytown area was unearthed in the backdam, approximately 400 metres behind another Church Street residence.
Speaking with the dead man’s family, Kaieteur News was made to understand that he (Alleyne) was last seen in November last year.
Residents in the vicinity said that they did not suspect that there was a decomposing body, as they did not smell anything out of the ordinary.
At the scene it was observed that there was only a minimal stench.
The remains of the body were found underneath a tree in a clump of bushes. The skull was approximately one metre from the body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition.
This raised some questions from residents of the area who gathered around the location of the body; they said that they thought it was uncommon for the head of the victim to be already decomposed while the body was still decomposing.
Hanging from the tree was a cement sling, which led to the supposition that the man may have hanged himself.
Near to the body, a bottle, which the police believe may have contained a poisonous substance, was also found.
Alleyne’s relatives and his wife, Senica Alleyne, identified the body as belonging to Alleyne from the clothes on the corpse. These were reportedly the same items which Leo Alleyne was last seen wearing.
When Senica Alleyne was approached, she appeared visibly distraught, and could not bring herself to speak.
Meanwhile, a person who claimed to be a close friend of the deceased, noted that he (Alleyne) was going through some difficult times. The friend hinted that there may have been some financial problems.
Many residents of the area said that Leo Alleyne’s death saddened them, as he was reportedly an amiable and easy going person, who really had no problems with anyone.
