On the occasion of 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution Cuba’s Charge d’Affairs, Pedro Arteaga Cardenas, has vowed continued cooperation and assistance to Guyana and other countries around the world.
On January 1, Communist Cuba marked the 50th anniversary of its revolution.
Arteaga said that it is well known what the revolution has caused in different social, cultural, educational, sport and health sectors, and not only for Cuba, but for the rest of the world.
He added that in Cuba many young people have been graduating as doctors, engineers and many other careers.
According to Arteaga, the collaboration agreement that Cuba has signed with many countries has proved to be fruitful. He stated that in Latin American and the Caribbean it is clear that Cuba has been quite active.
“We are at the service of all these countries. In Latin America and the Caribbean, Cuba practically has diplomatic relations with all the countries.”
He added that in the case of the Caribbean Community, Cuba sustained relations with 14 nations.
“Cuba is in the position to continue to collaborate with all the Caribbean countries.
In the specific case of Guyana, everyone knows all that Cuba is doing. More than 40 years of relations between Cuba and the government of Guyana is an expression of the solidarity and an expression of the willingness of Cuba to continue collaborating with Guyana.”
He added that four diagnostic centres, an ophthalmology centre under construction, more than 5000 patients having gone to Cuba for eye operations, and the cooperation in the cultural, agricultural and sports areas, are all expressions of Cuba’s willingness to collaborate with Guyana.
On January 1 1959, Fidel Castro proclaimed the “beginning of the Revolution” in Santiago, Cuba.
While initially nationalist, the revolution soon became pro-Soviet and Marxist at a time of frequent clashes between Washington and Moscow.
The Cuban Revolution was a revolution that led to the overthrow of the dictatorial government of Cuban President General Fulgencio Batista by the 26th of July movement and other revolutionary organizations.
The Cuban Revolution also refers to the ongoing implementation of social and economic programs by the new government since the overthrow of the Batista dictatorship, including the implementation of Marxist policies.
