Dear Editor,
As a young person I’m disappointed with the way in which the government dealt with the motion in Parliament which sought to give access for local channels to operate in Linden.
This government is on a campaign not for change but to stifle the people of Linden of their right to freedom of choice. This government is contemptuous of the people of Linden and the laws of Guyana in that even though the court has granted permission for the granting of radio and television licences, representative for the government in parliament had the audacity to indicate they will appeal the decision.
I would like to know what the grounds of appeal are.
I am very curious to find out what is the Prime Minister’s position on this issue, since he sits in the National Assembly as the representative for the people of Region 10 under the PPP/C.
I was amazed and shocked that he (Prime Minister) absented himself from the National Assembly when this important issue for Lindeners was debated.
Mr. Prime Minister, I eagerly await your opinion on this serious matter and ask two questions:
1. Why are you so silent on this issue?
2. Why is your government so afraid to allow access to other local television stations in Region 10?
History will judge you all.
