After six successive sold out shows in Georgetown, Linden, New Amsterdam and Kildonan, “Nothing to Laugh About” is back by popular demand. Scheduled to be held at the National Cultural Centre for one night only on the 24th January, the two-hour satirical production has indeed created a buzz.
Veteran comedian and director Henry Rodney promises that this time around he will be introducing a hot new piece of which he will be a part. He said in an interview, “It is the hottest thing around right now, a guaranteed must see. When you talk about real entertainment it is entertainment at its fullest. Linden was a scream, New Amsterdam was a tear down sellout, Kildonan was packed to capacity and Corriverton, Rosehall, No 29, Bartica Coast and Essequibo are all calling to have the show brought to their region. So here we go again even hotter than before”.
When “Nothing to Laugh About” hit the Theatre Guild last November the response was so overwhelming that producer and writer Maria Edwards-Benschop was left with no choice but to do a holdover. According to her there were numerous requests.
The production was brought to life by a combination of seasoned and new actors and actresses such as Clemencio Goddette, Joel Fraser, Shelly Bancroft, Gerard Gilkes, Lynyus Adams, Shonette Somerset, Kamai Fraser, Simone Persaud and Jamal LaRose. This young and energetic cast was put together by Henry Rodney and did an excellent job of entertaining their enthusiastic audiences.
