Foreign Trade Minister Dr Henry Jeffrey officially demitted office on Old Year’s Day, following his resignation as a Minister of Government.
The former Minister of Foreign Trade cleared out his desk after he reportedly failed to conclude an agreement with Cabinet over his future. He had indicated that he would not have been averse to accepting a posting as Guyana’s Ambassador to Suriname.
Kaieteur News was told that Jeffery had suggested an alternative post in Guyana if the Suriname posting was not agreed to, but his proposal has not found favour with the powers that be.
This newspaper was told that the former minister causally went into his office and cleared it out, as he said his goodbyes to his former employees.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Kaieteur News on Monday last, Guyana’s Charge d’Affaires to Suriname, Yvonne Lesperans, said that she has not been informed that the former minister will be taking up the ambassadorial post in that country.
She said that while it would be nice to have an ambassador to that country, she has no idea of any decision to have Jeffery take up the post.
