Dear Editor,
Whenever there was an increase in the price of fuel, an automatic impact resulted in the cost of everything mounting with consumers having to pay more becoming simultaneous.
But, despite the price of fuel being reduced twice for this year within a short span of time, the same principle is not being applied to pay less for anything in Region Two, which stretches from Pomeroon to Supenaam.
The necessary adjustments have to be made voluntarily, but this is not being done, much to the detriment of the residents in the district where employment opportunities are negligible from the lack of industries, as compared with the other two counties Demerara and Berbice.
To this day, commuters here have to pay much more in taxi fares than in any other part of the country, as much as $300.00 for a passenger on a 10-mile stretch from Supenaam to Suddie during the day.
Exorbitant charges are also evident for other routes and. to bring about some measure of relief. a fare structure as was done in other parts of the country is urgently necessary for this district too.
Government must be commended for reducing the fuel price, but at the same time there should be equality in its use to be of benefit to everyone.
Several residents have been complaining about having to pay the same old prices for flour and cooking gas, although the cost for these two commodities was also reduced, and with no difference to bread as well.
