Play in the Pioneer Construction/LABA Senior Club Basketball League continued recently at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hardcourt with first round matches in the double round league.
In the opening game of the night, Amelia’s Ward Jets beat Patriots 69-43. After the first quarter the scores were level at 8-8, however, by half time Patriots held the advantage 25-21. Moving into the third quarter, Jets assumed the ascendency 40-34 and eventually won the contest 69-43.
Keniv Joseph scored a game high 29 points, Neil Simon and Akeem Kanhai both scored 11 for the Jets. For Patriots, Neil Marks and Alwyn Wilson each netted 11 points and Leslie Bastiani 11.
In the second match, a contest between two previously unbeaten clubs, Royals overcame Pistons 53-47. The opening period saw the score at 15-10 in favour of Royals, while at half time they led 29-18, and by the third quarter they were leading 35-26 as they closed out the game 53-47.
Royals were led to victory by Dwayne Roberts with 26 points, Chris Williams 10, Lawrence Da Costa and Anson Durant 9 each.
Pistons’ best scorers were Trevor Profitt with 20 points, after scoring the team’s first ten points, Quincy Jones and Mark Louis each got nine points.
