– Even sidewalks overcrowded
As Christmas approaches, crowds of people throng the streets of Georgetown, as they usually do when the festive season comes over Guyana.
These streets are overflowing with people, and not only because of the large number of Christmas shoppers, but also because of the numerous vendors who have occupied the sidewalks and pavements.
In many instances, pedestrians have been forced to walk on the roadway.
In one instance, a vendor laid his goods out on the roadway, and another simply backed up his minibus and opened the trunk, displaying his items from inside of the minibus, also on the roadway.
Even though there are so many vendors, and so many apparent shoppers, reports are that many persons are still not buying, choosing instead to find the best bargains before spending their money.
