A collaborative effort between the Hydrometerological Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, GT&T and the Linden Economic Advancement Programme has seen personnel from the three organisations teaming up to install an automatic weather station at the GT&T cell site tower on Manni Street, Linden.
According to reports, the weather station is equipped with rain gauge, and wind, temperature and humidity sensors.
Business development Unit Manager of LEAP, Neil Fraser, said that he is very appreciative of the assistance rendered by both GT&T and the Meterological Department, in setting up the station.
Fraser said that the purpose of the weather station is to collect relevant data of weather patterns, which would determine the possibility of harnessing alternative sources of energy.
The weather station was provided by Chem-Tec of Trinidad and Texas in the USA. The latter company will be looking at business ventures locally, using alternative energy sources.
LEAP personnel will be tasked with the responsibility of logging the weather patterns from the station, and furthering same to the meteorological department for analysis.
Fraser noted that apart from its primary purpose, which is to determine the energy potential of the elements, the “station” would greatly assist farmers, as LEAP would disseminate the weather forecast to farmers in Region 10.
