Watershed moment in a year of unbelievable progress –
President
The Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) last Monday created history when it became the first County Board in Guyana to publish a magazine to inform all stakeholders of the developments in the sport in the Ancient County.
The 24 page magazine is another project of the Special Events Committee (SEC) of the BCBC and was printed by F & T Printers in Georgetown.
The magazine highlights activities of the SEC and the BCBC in 2008 including the awards ceremony, hall of fame, tribute to heroes, educational awards schemes, inter-county caps and the Berbice All Time XI.
Also included are reports from the Secretary, competition committee, articles of tribute to former West Indies captain Rohan Kanhai, former Secretary of the BCBC Mortimer George and two pages of tribute to Leslie Amsterdam AA, late President of the Board. First class umpire D. Somwaru also did an article on Practical Umpiring while five promising Berbician young cricketers; Keon Joseph, Eugene LaFluer, Eon Hooper, Jonathan Foo and Seon Hetmyer are also featured.
A special article is also penned on under-19 players from Berbice who represented Guyana and the West Indies. The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club also lend advice to other clubs on their remarkable success story. The activities of the Board during the year also form part of the Magazine.
Acting president of the BCBC Mr. Keith Foster in feature remarks noted that the launching of the magazine was the watershed moment for the board in perhaps the most progressive year in its 70 year history. He cautioned board members and representatives of the clubs that much more hard work is still to be done, noting that special focus was being placed on honouring heroes on and off the field.
“The policy has worked successfully as passion and commitment among administrators and players is very high. We would like to express gratitude to the RHTYSC for co-sponsoring and producing the magazine.”
Chairman of the SEC, Hilbert Foster in opening remarks at the launching ceremony noted that the magazine was the cream on the pudding for the board in a year where progress had occurred at an unbelievable rate.
He cited a total of 25 major projects and programmes being achieved for the year which has transformed the BCBC into Guyana’s most progressive County Board. “The BCBC’s success during the year was based on hard work, team unity, visionary leadership and total commitment by the management team.”
Second Vice President David Black stated that he was proud to be associated with the board pointing to the fact that they have achieved quite a lot in a single year. He also called the Magazine, a jewel in the board’s crown.
Board Treasurer Anil Beharry praised his fellow administrators for a year of total team work and cooperation. The long serving treasurer stated that most sports organisations are only able to organise a few programmes but the BCBC in 2008 were able to achieve dozens.
Special gratitude was also extended to a number of companies and organisations for contributing to the magazine. GT&T CELLINK, DDL Pepsi, Demerara Bank, Republic Bank, P&P Insurance Brokers, Lloyd and Kim’s Fashion, A. Ally & Sons General Store, Papie’s Supermarket and the Guyana Cricket Board.
The magazine will be presented to organisations locally and regionally.
