Rawle Fredericks named MVP of the year at Buxton cricket club’s annual awards

Left-handed batsman Rawle Fredericks was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the year when the Buxton Carl Hooper Cricket Club held its annual awards ceremony recently on the East Coast of Demerara.
President of the club Esse Peters told the gathering that he hoped 2009 would see an improvement in the club’s performance and that the players will strive to work harder as a team.
“We have had a fairly good year and next year everyone at the club is determined to do a lot better and end 2009 as the number one team on the East Coast.
We also hope that we could attract more sponsorship for our club since over the years running the club and participating in the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) competitions has been very expensive for us,” Peters said.
Peters, who along with Marlon Thomas received awards for being the longest serving executives of the club, thanked all those who assisted the club in 2008 and was high in praise for the support received from the ECCB and the Demerara Cricket Board.
“We have a good bunch of youths here who have lots of talent but not much opportunity and funding has been our main problem over the years,” said Peters, the club’s President for the last decade.
“Players like Clive Andries, who now plays competitive football, represented Guyana in cricket at the under-19 level after he began his cricket here in Buxton and with more support from the business community and the villagers, we can produce more national players,” Peters added.

In addition to copping the Most Valuable Player award, Fredericks also took home the Batsman of the Year trophy while Caesar Glen received the ‘Best all-rounder of the year’ award.
Mervin Cole was voted the ‘best Fielder of the year’ while Thomas collected the ‘Most Disciplined Player of the Year’ award.
