Eight persons were yesterday rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after the minibus in which they were traveling ended up in a trench.
The incident occurred sometime around 15:00 hours on the Oleander Gardens Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
Reports are that the route 44 minibus was heading towards the city when its driver tried to avoid hitting a cow.
This newspaper was told that as the driver swerved from the animal the vehicle ended up in the trench.
Among those injured are Edmond Forde, of Buxton, Sherryann Shirdutt and Ryan Persaud, of Good Hope, Alvin Harry, of Friendship, Marlon Nicholson of Covent Garden, Shamdar and Romel Prashad, of Mon Repos, and Pulmattie Persaud, of Strathspey.
With the assistance of public spirited citizens the injured persons were rushed to the hospital.
However up to press time it was still not clear how many of the injured persons had been admitted.
The driver of the minibus was detained to assist with investigations.
