Two charitable organizations yesterday benefited from sizable donations from Demerara Distillers Limited Chairman, Dr. Yesu Persaud.
During a simple ceremony at the DDL High Street, Kingston location, cheques were handed over to Harry Ramsaroop of the Dharm Shala and Nurse Wendy Alves of the Cheshire Home.
Officiating at the handing over ceremony was Public Relation Consultant Alex Graham.
According to Graham, the donation derived from a series of activities which Dr. Persaud held to celebrate his 80th birth anniversary.
Graham said that, at each event, Dr. Persaud had requested that he not be presented with any gift, but instead, contributions could be made to charities of his choice.
Meanwhile, Dr. Persaud, in brief remarks, said that the two homes became close to him since he was privileged to work with them in the past.
He said he is aware of the fact that running homes like the Dharm Shala and the Cheshire Home is no easy task, and that the persons who are doing so should be complimented for their work.
“I know it is not easy trying to source funds to maintain the children, and even the elders, at these homes, so I have decided to make these donations; and it would not have been possible without the donors,” Dr. Persaud said.
