We have done some checks and have finally concluded that Rolex Martin is the youngest footballer to participate in the Kashif and Shanghai tournament to date.
Rolex is 14 years old and has been playing football for most of those years.
He is a resident of Rupununi and is currently in form three at the St Ignatius Secondary School and plays for Tabatinga, one of the top football clubs in Region 9. He is a midfielder.
Rolex told Kaieteur Sport that his father played competitive football and as such football is in his genes.
To date, Rolex’s most cherished moment occurred in October when he competed in the Rupununi U-17 leagues.
He reminisces, “Even though I had scored many goals before, this one was at a very high level; in what I considered to be a real match.”
The memory of the ball hitting the back of the net remains indelibly etched on the young man’s mind.
The match against Fruta Conquerors this evening is his first at this level and Rolex intends to make the most of the opportunity.
This is the first time that the lad is participating in the K&S tournament and he is very excited at the prospect of registering his first goal at this level.
Kaieteur Sport wishes Rolex all the best in this and future endeavours.
