With a brief ceremony on Saturday, Courts Guyana Inc. officially opened the doors of its spanking new Parika store to the general public.
The construction of this much larger edifice will offer customers over 5,000 square feet of shopping space, which is an increase of over 70% of the previous area.
After prayers by religious groups, and welcome remarks by the Parika branch manager, Pamela Humphrey, Universal Academy’s Joyanne Ramnauth recited an exciting dramatic poem dubbed ‘Unity,’ which evoked much laughter and applause from the sizeable audience.
Addressing the invitees, Courts Country Manager Lester Alvis said that he was delighted to announce the launch of the new store, noting that the increase in store space will allow Courts to display and offer a much wider range of merchandise, from which customers can make their selections.
He pointed out that the branch in Parika has become an integral part of the community, emphasizing that this significant investment in the venture is a tangible demonstration of the furniture giant’s long term commitment to serving the residents of the West Demerara and Essequibo communities long into the future.
He noted that Courts is committed to providing the widest range of quality products at the most affordable prices, backed up by exceptional service and a range of credit facilities which make it possible for everyone to buy what they need for their homes.
In closing, the Country Manager expressed his gratitude to the Parika RDC and other stakeholders who have contributed towards making the new project a reality, and to Courts’ valued customers, whose exceptional support has made the investment possible.
Immediately following the Country Manager’s remarks, Universal Academy’s Janelle Grimmond executed a brilliant interpretive dance, which paved the way for Regional Chairman (Region # 3), Julius Faerber’s brief speech.
Faeber said he was more than pleased to be among those attending the launch, indicating that Courts’ services in the area over the years have impacted positively on residents. He called on other corporate businesses to invest in the area, which has tremendous potential for investment and sizeable returns.
Tourism Minister Manniram Prashad, in his address, noted that he was indeed happy to be a part of the venture, emphasizing that Courts ‘made the difference’ when it introduced its hire purchase payment plans like ‘a breath of fresh air’ to the public several years ago.
The minister said low income employees can now enjoy the necessities of life for an affordable cash value, compliments of the furniture and electrical appliances giant.
Minister Prashad noted that Courts has set a style and high standards with its many charitable ventures, and has become “a good corporate citizen.”
The minister urged other businesses to follow suit, stating also that with each new Courts outlet comes immediate employment for many locals.
He applauded the entity for its high class management style and entrepreneurial skills.
A ribbon-cutting and plaque-unveiling ceremony followed, before those attending retired for light refreshments.
