Victim’s money restored after two months

Another fraud was discovered at the Bank of Nova Scotia in October. This time, $597,000 were withdrawn from an account by means of a cheque, without the account holder’s knowledge.
According to reports, the money was restored to the joint account of the victims, Joseph Kayum and his wife, on Thursday, some two months after the money was withdrawn. This newspaper understands that, early in October, Kayum was informed by the bank that his account was overdrawn in excess of $500,000 and that a cheque allegedly written by him was drawn from the account.
Reports are that the cheque was not written by Kayum, and the signature which purported to be his did not match the specimen signature which the bank has. The money was drawn at the Robb Street Branch of the bank.
In February this year, there was a fraud at this very bank, when some $19.2 million of lottery winnings went missing from Jose Francisco Jardine’s account.
The money was restored to his account more than a month later.
