The body of an eleven-year-old girl, who appeared to have been sexually abused, was found on Tuesday hanging in a bathroom outside her Port Kaituma, North West District home.
According to reports, the girl’s mother had scolded her after the juvenile had refused to do some kitchen chores.
The child then went outside and was eventually found by a cousin in a bathroom dangling from a length of polythene cord.
A police official said that an autopsy, performed yesterday, ruled out foul play.
However, the source also said that the autopsy revealed that the victim was repeatedly subjected to sexual abuse.
There are suggestions that the juvenile took her life to escape from her tormentor.
Kaieteur news understands that police have detained a family member whom they suspect may be the culprit.
