Courts Pacesetters will have to have major individual performances from its top five and role players tomorrow in the Accomplished Entertainment Basketball and Fashion Show event if they are to overcome Dyna’s Ravens.
Kaieteur Sport presents profiles and brief synopsises of some of those players ahead of the team’s major showdown before the year ends. The last time Ravens met Pacesetters, the game ended abruptly owing to tension.
Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan
Courts Pacesetters’ Head Coach
Former National Basketball Coach
Former Supligen All–star Coach
Former National Basketball Captain
National Player, 1985–1998
Stephon Gillis
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 28 years old
Position: Shooting Guard
Achievements: National and All–star Senior Shooting Guard and Consecutive Senior Three–Point Shooting Champion 2007–2008.
Synopsis: Gillis is an extremely skilful and mature player outside the three–point perimeter. He overshoots the ball on bad nights but can be devastating once he discovers his rhythm. He is known to be mentally insecure.
Royston Siland
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 29 years old
Position: Forward
Achievements: National and All–star Senior Forward.
Synopsis: Siland topples the best at the bottom on the offensive and defensive rebounding ends but struggles to convert his obvious outstanding leap into major offensive scoring opportunities. His offensive aggression needs improvement.
Naylon Loncke
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 29 years old
Position: Forward
Achievements: National Junior Shooting Guard, National Senior and All–star Forward.
Synopsis: Loncke brings a wealth of experience to the fore with a decent knowledge of the game. He tends to play individually when his team is under pressure and gets frustrated easily. He needs to control his temperament.
Clement Brusche
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 30 years old
Position: Forward
Achievements: Regular starter for Courts Pacesetters
Synopsis: Brusche is tough at the bottom but sometimes lack the extra finesse needed to get him on the offensive sheets. He is a big ‘rebounder’ but needs to get more involved on the offensive end of the court for his team.
Travis Burnett
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 20 years old
Position: Guard
Achievements: National Junior Most Valuable Player, Inter–Guiana Games MVP and Junior All–star Guard.
Synopsis: Burnett dribbles the ball very low, which makes it difficult for taller defenders to reach–he runs past them and favours the inside plays. He is weak from 15 feet and beyond thus work is needed on his jump shot.
Aubrey Smith
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 25 years old
Position: Guard
Achievements: National Junior and three–time All–star Player.
Synopsis: Smith is one of the workaholics of the team and has added the defensive aspect of the game to his inventory. His skill is acute and has the advantage to find players when least expected. His concentration needs improvement.
Hugh Arthur
Courts Pacesetters
Age: 24 years old
Position: Guard
Achievements: Next Level Entertainment and Brusche’s Classic Starter for the team
Synopsis: Arthur is touted as a future star guard for Pacesetters because of his ‘level head’ and generally good ball control. He likes to take on the opposition individually but is very unselfish with ball distribution. He is a good starter.
