Up to press time yesterday, doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital were battling to save the life of a Pike Street, Kitty resident who was crushed by a metal gate, shortly after 14:00 hours on Thursday.
Reports are that 28-year-old Ravendra Dass was crushed while trying to repair the gate.
The incident occurred at a business premises at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
Kaieteur News was told that Dass and several other men were trying to attach the gate, which had a broken wheel, when the incident occurred.
An eyewitness said that Dass was trying to prop up the gate when the damaged wheel gave way, causing the gate to collapse on him.
The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was subsequently admitted.
Reports are that Dass received severe head injuries. Up to press time yesterday, Dass was still hospitalized at the Georgetown Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. His condition is listed as critical but stable.
