Albouystown battle Tiger Bay in tonight’s final

It’s now down to the final day of the inaugural Guinness ‘Greatest of De Street’ Football tournament and what a clash it will be to bring the curtains down on what has surely been a great tournament showcasing the non traditional talent that abounds in this format of the game.
Tonight at the National Park Tarmac, it will be the clash of the Ghettos when Albouystown throws down the gauntlet to their peers from Hope Street Tiger Bay in the battle for the top prize of $200,000.
In earning the right to face off in the championship match, Albouystown easily disposed of Globe Yard 4-1 in the first semi-final but Tiger Bay did not earn their place that easily.
They advanced after a fierce fight with East Front Road which they won after three rounds of sudden death penalty kicks which underlined the fierceness of that match after a 1-1 regulation and extra time war.
‘Golden Jaguar’ Shawn Bishop played a pivotal role in leading Tiger Bay to victory, he scored the all important equalizer four minutes after Andy Duke had given East Ruimveldt the lead in the 13th minute.
After the first set of penalty kicks the score again was locked at 3, it took three sets of sudden death penalty kicks to decide the winner. Bishop again was the man on target after East missed their third sudden death kick.
In the opening game, Devon Dookie blasted a double (11 & 14) in leading Albouystown to victory. Andrew Murray tucked in the first goal four minutes into the encounter while Renault Fraser increased the lead three minutes later.
Globe Yard who never threatened to match the skill levels being displayed by Albouystown got their consolation goal from Mark Scott in the 9th minute.
Globe Yard and East Front Road will now meet in the 3rd place playoff while a number of exhibition matches will also be played this evening before the grand final.
Local artistes Michelle ‘Big Red’ King and First Born are also to perform, adding flavour and entertainment to the evening’s programme.
