Mayor of New Amsterdam, His Worship Claude Henry (2nd left) handing over the letter of pledge to BCBC President Keith Foster in the presence of other Board members.
The efforts of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control to have its own permanent head office is closer to reality with the decision of the New Amsterdam Town Council to donate a plot of land to the BCBC.
On Thursday last, Mayor of New Amsterdam, His Worship Claude Henry handed over the official letter of pledge to Acting BCBC President Keith Foster.
In handing over the document, Mayor Henry stated that his council is very supportive of sports and was pleased with the development of cricket in the ancient county.
He further noted that the BCBC in 2008 has been doing a fine job of promoting the game and with the donation of the plot of land; the board would now be able to realize its own permanent office which would enable them to do much more.
Foster in accepting the letter from the Mayor expressed great delight at the positive response to the Board’s request for the land.
He informed that Berbice cricket is undergoing an unprecedented stage of development and as such a more modern and suitable office is needed. The Board hopes to start construction of the office sometime in the New Year.
