Miss Republic of the Colin Elcock stable continues to make waves in the horse racing circle when it beat the field to win the main event at the Port Mourant Turf Club grand one day horse race meet which was held on Sunday last.

In the feature C class event, Miss Republic delivered perfectly as it continued on its winning ways with a fantastic run down the home stretch in a breath taking finish to take the $300,000 first prize compliments of Banks DIH and the magistrate Chandra Sohan trophy, in the gruelling 1650 meters event.
Running as if to prove that it recent victories were no fluke, the E 2 horse which has won its last three outings in the C class category since deciding to move up in class and challenge the bigger guns on the track, a move that has been successful, showed its ability.
At the start Little Pannie and Sir Balajee took the lead with Miss Republic in hot pursuit. Miss Republic showed it intention and briefly took the lead which was regained by Little Pannie. The pair traded the lead into the final straight as Miss Republic timing its acceleration to perfection.
Guided by the experienced jockey Paul Delph, the new sensation on the track started to pick its stride nicely accelerating with every stride to win handsomely with a burst of speed. Little Pannie ridden by Daniel Flores held on for second, Sir Balajee with Colin Ross on the mount coming in third.
The day’s proceedings provided much excitement for the fans as the biggest December crowd to have attended a meet at the facility saw horse racing at its best.
The newly acquired starting gates, which was in use for the first time, worked flawlessly and the newly refurbish Grand stand offering perfect accommodation.
The other feature event; the 2-year-old Open, which was sponsored by Banks DIH over a distance of 1200m and had $180,000 on offer for the winner, saw Sweet Romance of the Chris Jagdeo stable with jockey Michael Semple on board, claimed the top spot, battering the field in the most convincing victory of the day.
Leading from start to finish, the horse which is unbeaten since entering the local racing arena won by about 15 lengths ahead of Royal Champion and Over the Map respectively.
It was a bright day for horses of the Colin Elcock stable as Face DE Music, with jockey Paul Delph in saddle, trashed its rivals in the F class event in the F class 1200m contest as it ran away from Mattarazzi of the Jagdeo stable to win the 180,000 purse. Tropical Passion came in third as Laura lee in Flight finished fourth.
Perfect Drift of the Ramnarine stable, ridden by Yap Drepaul, displayed its ability to claim the H class 1400m race. The horse worked its way nicely into position to canter home in a roaring finished to take the $110,000 first prize. Miami Vice lost grip coming down to the end to finish second with Brown Boy taking third.
The J and K race resulted in Rukia ridden by Jockey Desmond Ramnarine holding off a fast finishing Zebra to win the $95,000 purse with Moon Rush running third.
Cash Run piloted by Sukhoo controlled the L class 1000m event, defeating Moon Rush and Power Master. The win was worth $70,000.
The champion jockey of the meet was Paul Delph of the Elcock stables with the Elcock stables being adjudged the champion stable and trainer owner Colin Elcock the champion trainer.
Elcock showered praised on his training staff and said that the horses are in the best of condition at the moment. The experience groom said that he is hoping to maintain that form and continue winning for the rest of the season.
