Malfunctioning wells along East Bank Demerara are causing great inconvenience to many residents who have to go without water.
On Monday, residents of Grove, Bagotstown, Diamond and other villages were affected for most of the day, as they were left without water. The situation continued up to yesterday in Diamond.
When Kaieteur News contacted the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) yesterday, this newspaper was told that the company is experiencing some problems with the wells along East Bank Demerara.
Public Relations Officer of GWI, Rawle Aaron, said that some of the problems were as a resulted of electricity outages.
He noted that ‘the pumps are very expensive…They are built to last for approximately five years’ and power outages can affect them gravely.
Aaron added that the pumps are placed some 75 feet underground, and once there is a problem, the technicians would have to bring that entire pump up to the surface to have it repaired.
Currently, he said, technicians are working tirelessly to fix the problem, and at the same time are urging residents to be patient.
He assured that the problem will be fixed shortly.
