“He friend just keep encouraging he fuh stab Ralph.
“ He telling he, ‘Juk he, man! Juk he!” – Victim’s wife
A Plaisance family was plunged into mourning last night when a teenager stabbed his stepfather to death during what started out as a minor family dispute.
Ralph Jacobs, 40, was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after receiving a single stab wound to the heart.
Lynnette Fredericks relates what transpired that led to the death of her reputed husband, Ralph Jacobs.
The incident occurred at around 19:00 hours at a popular shop in Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.
Late last night, the police apprehended the killer, but his friend who provided him with the knife was still at large.
Lynette Fredericks, the dead man’s reputed wife, said that although she urged her 17-year-old son not to stab his stepfather, she could only stand by and watch as the tragic event unfolded.
Speaking to this newspaper, Fredericks said that the incident stemmed from her physically disciplining her daughter who had left the home and had not returned at the stipulated time.
She said that while she and her reputed husband were at the shop, they noticed the daughter coming with one of her brothers.
“I just tek me hand and give she two slap, then she run away. She keep crying and tell she brother that mommy slap she.”
Fredericks said that her son then informed her that he and his sister had visited a friend’s home.
According to the woman, Jacobs became angry with the way the young man was talking to her, and began cuffing him.
“My son say, ‘Man, wha you doing? Don’t do it! And he (Jacobs) start to kick he. My son fall and then he get up and start running. He (Jacobs) keep running behind the boy.”
Fredericks’s other teenaged son then intervened to protect his brother.
Jacobs then turned his attention to the younger sibling, and the two began to fight.
Another young man, who is a friend of Fredericks’s sons, joined in and offered the teenager a knife, encouraging him to stab his stepfather.
“I say, ‘Ryan, don’t do it! Don’t do it! Ralph just keep going up to he, and I start hollering. But he friend just keep encouraging he fuh stab Ralph. He telling he, ‘Juk he, man! Juk he!’ “ Fredericks recalled.
She said that she did not see when her son stabbed Jacobs, but the two fighting men eventually separated.
Jacobs walked a few metres, claiming that he was stabbed, before collapsing.
“I thought nothing ain’t happen to he by he keep walking. Den he seh, ‘Ryan you stab me, you stab me. Right?’ And just so he throw down heself and he ain’t say another word,” the woman said, while holding back tears.
She told this newspaper that she has been living with Jacobs for the past 13 years, and during that time her children never enjoyed a good relationship with their stepfather.
Now that the incident has occurred, the woman said, she is now left to fend for herself, since her reputed husband is dead and one of her sons will be in prison.
