An early morning robbery at East Bank Berbice has left 26-year-old Marlon John, of Edinburgh Housing Scheme, nursing a gunshot wound to the left eye.
The incident occurred at around 02:00 hrs at John’s reputed wife’s home in Edinburgh.
According to reports, the man, along with his wife and daughter, was in bed when they were aroused by sounds coming from downstairs. The woman opened the bedroom door and, upon seeing a man, quickly tried to lock it back.
The intruder then fired a shot in the woman’s direction, which struck John in the left eye. The intruder then proceeded to rob the family of its valuables, which included a quantity of gold jewellery.
The injured man was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Hospital because of the severity of his injures.
When contacted by this newspaper, relatives of the injured man declined to comment on the matter.
According to a police release, investigating ranks found a .9mm warhead at the scene. According to hospital sources the bullet exited through John’s left side temple. His condition is listed as critical.
