This newspaper has been reliably informed that Former Region Four Chairman, Allan Monroe, has been identified by the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Robert Corbin, to replace Vincent Alexander on the Local Government Task Force.
Alexander tendered his resignation on Friday last, pointing out a myriad of reasons for his departure.
According to senior officials within the hierarchy of the PNCR, Corbin settled on Monroe because of his vast experience on the local government scene.
In 1973, Munroe became the Principal of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute.
Three years later, he served as the Assistant Chief Education Officer; and two years later, Deputy Chief Education Officer. In 1980, he was given the position of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.
In 1986, Monroe was elected Regional Chairman of Region Four, a position he held until 2006, when he retired.
He was succeeded by the present Chairman of Region Four, Clement Corlette.
The Local Government Task Force currently includes Basil Williams, Llewellyn John, Indra Chandarpal, Clinton Collymore and Ganga Persaud, among others.
The Task Force is laying the groundwork for holding Local Government Elections, which have not been held since 1994.
