The annual Bakewell sponsored Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) of Guyana 15 overs Inter-Jamaat Softball round robin cricket competition continued last weekend at the MYO ground, Woolford Avenue with Old Mosque and Cornelia Ida recording wins, while four teams won via the walk over route.
In their first match Old Mosque took on Diamond New Scheme with the former batting first and made 182-4 with Asif Mohamed striking 41, Brother Abdullah and Shazim Abrahim contributed 35 each and extras 32. Bowling, Ibrahim Ali and Saied Khan took 2 wickets each for Diamond New Scheme who were bowled out for 79 to lose by 103 runs. Saied Khan top scored with and unbeaten 29.
Doing the damage with the ball for Old Mosque were Asif Mohamed (3) and Rasheed Baksh with 2.
In their match against Triumph, Old Mosque again batted first and posted 135-8 off their allotted overs. Haroon Bacchus led with 36 and Shazim Abrahim 21.
Triumph hit off the required runs reaching 136-3 to win by a comfortable seven wickets. Shazim Ali led the victory chase with a composed 77.
Lusignan took to the crease first in their match against Cornelia Ida and were sent packing for 52 in 7 overs. Afsan Alli was the only batsman in double figures with 15. Creating havoc with the ball was Naieem Khalil who captured 5-8 off a mere two overs. He got excellent back up from Azad Zaman and Aftab Hussain with 2 each.
Cornelia Ida made light work of their response as they reached 54-0, Salim Mohamed making slamming 30 and Morgan Singh 12.
Sister’s Village got a walk overs from Lusignan and Success, Cornelia Ida got theirs against Success for their second win of the day. New Mosque failed to put in an appearance for their clash with Windsor Forest.
Quarter-finals matches will be played next Sunday, December 14 at the same venue bowling off at 09:00hrs.
Meanwhile, matches set for today, MYO play Windsor Forest from 09:00hrs, two hours later Kitty come up against Peter’s Hall with the last match featuring Old Mosque and Farm A from 13:00hrs.
