Following weeks of complaining by residents of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara over the removal of a house on the main access road, it has been reported that the individual is in the process of removing the structure, as he was ordered to do so by the Ministry of Housing.
Resident of the area, and one of the representatives of the community, Polson Henry, told Kaieteur News yesterday that officials from the Housing Ministry visited the community on Monday last and instructed the man to remove his ‘shack’.
According to Henry, the man has since commenced removing the structure, but the owners of the three other houses, which are also on the road, are showing no sign of immediate removal.
Henry explained that these individuals were also instructed by the Housing officials to remove their structures.
The resident added that the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) is also involved in the removal process and is assisting the residents in getting back their road.
The villagers are now sand filling the road, as part of their maintenance plan. In this regard, they are now asking the traffic department of the Guyana Police Force for permission to implement speed bumps to make the roads safer for the majority of children who access it on a daily basis.
Recently, residents met with officials from the Central Planning and Housing Authority relating to the illegal construction of the house on the only road in the community, as it would block the passageway that school children utilize to make their way home.
The villagers had told this newspaper that for the past 13 years, they have been maintaining the road by asking for donations from a number of businesses so that children from the day care, nursery and primary schools can use the road to go home.
