Records victory against Everest in crucial last round match
By Sean Devers
Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) took the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Pepsi Cup 40-overs first division cricket competition when they defeated Everest by 45 runs in their crucial final round game last Saturday.
Both teams entered the match knowing that the winner would be crowd champions and Denis Squires led the fight with the bat with an aggressive unbeaten 73 as DCC reached 205-9 when their 40 overs expired.
Squires crowned a fine day at the office by grabbing 4-17 from eight impressive overs of off-spin as Everest fell for 160.
Everest ended third on the points table while GNIC was second to DCC following Everest’s defeat.
Jamal Hinkson (44), Trevon Garraway (22) and Uton Munroe (16*) offered support to the tall Squires as former national youth left-arm spinner Raymond Singh took 3-42 for Everest.
Essequibo leg-spinner Rakesh Goberdhan (2-47) and Denis Mangru (2-41) also bowled well for the Camp Road line-up who never really got going when they began their reply needing to score at just over five runs per over.
Mangru ht an unbeaten 31 while Singh made 26 in a losing cause as Munroe (3-39) and off-spinner Kevin George (2-24) backed up the impressive Squires with the ball.
