Denesh Ramdin said he is delighted to be named Vice Captain of the West Indies and aims do his utmost to ensure the Windies conquer New Zealand in the upcoming series.
Ramdin was appointed for the Tests and One-Day Internationals after Ramnaresh Sarwan stepped down from the role due to personal reasons.
“When I was asked to do the job I immediately said yes, I did not hesitate. We have a crucial series coming up and I aim to play a major role,” said Ramdin, a former West Indies Under-19 Captain.
The fleet-footed wicketkeeper/batsman was speaking during the West Indies three-day first-class match against Auckland at the Eden Park Outer Oval. He is leading the team in the absence of Captain Chris Gayle, who is being rested for this match.
“It is an honour to be Vice Captain of the West Indies. This is an opportunity to be in a leadership position and I am hoping to lead by example. This has given me added confidence and I will be looking to improve my batting and keeping.”
