Dear Editor,
I was surprised to see some quality roads in Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara . The roads have always been like a massive sweet water type fish farm, with potholes so large that people can fish in them or even grow fish. The disgust and suffering of residents in Atlantic Gardens are well known.
The NDC and Government paying no attention caused the destruction of vehicles and inconvenience.
The frontal part that was repaired I was told was done by another good resident of the area, whose name I did not manage to get.
As I moved closer I saw a beautiful and well groomed compound and home that I feasted my eyes on, with a good quality road .
That entire piece was build by Mr. Roshan Khan, with some help from two other neighbours. He paid ninety-five percent of the costs.
I also heard that the Chairman of the NDC promised to contribute the equivalent of three truckloads of crusher run, which was to be used to repair the holes in the area near the repaired part by Mr. Khan, however, they have not kept their promise.
I believe when citizens of Guyana do such things to help their community and country, they should be recognised and thanked.
I thank Mr. Roshan Khan, and the other gentleman for their kind gesture. I do not live in Atlantic Gardens, but I know how painful it was to travel in a prime residential community, as I have many friends and relatives there.
I advise Mr. Khan and other residents to make this a gated community, with security gate control and patrols. I know Mr. Khan is a security specialist, and with about $5-10,,000.00 per month per household.
The drains could be kept cleaned and properly maintained, the grass cut and manicured, the cows left loose could be impounded, and tress and flowers planted as a garden.
Illegal ingress and egress controlled or stopped, and maybe a relative crime-free society could be created, with property value spiraling, and the attraction of diplomatic and foreign business people as rentals.
The man who parks those dingy, rusted old trucks need to clear the area of his heavy-duty trash.
Some people have to learn that they cannot get everything and they must help their community. It is unfair that some try to develop and others destroy.
I also advise all citizens to raise money and fix the roads, as the NDC will do little to end the situation.
Try also and get approval to manage the area without the NDC and use your rate and taxes for the community.
