Dear editor,
These three words “yes we can” that were chosen by Barack Obama as his refrain, his rallying cry to the American people during his presidential campaign, gained rapid and worldwide popularity across the globe, as equally as with every increase in intensity and intrigue of the election itself.
The reverberations of those three words, this phrase, has had such a powerful impact that it has become a kind of inspirational, hence being adopted by many movements, organizations, clubs, groups etc. as a sort of banner, a driving force for change and victory.
But on hearing it for the first time being uttered by Barack Obama, my mind almost instantly began churning, and I began humming our national song, “Let us cooperate for Guyana” and its catchy refrain “Can we do it, yes we can”.
Thus, probably without even knowing it we have given President-elect Barack Obama, and he has taken from us his winning refrain. “Can we do it, yes we can”.
