President Bharrat Jagdeo, who left Guyana on Wednesday for the United States, has met with top officials of the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the United States Agency of International Development.
The meeting took place yesterday afternoon and afforded President Jagdeo an opportunity to press Guyana’s case for consideration of the MCC Compact eligibility. At the MCC, the Head of State met with Ambassador John Danilovich, the Chief Executive Officer; while at the USAID he met with Mr. James Kunder, the Acting Deputy Administrator.
The Millennium Challenge Corporation is an innovative independent United States Government Agency dedicated to reducing poverty through sustainable economic growth.
Guyana is currently implementing a two-year MCC Threshold Country Plan for countries that are close to eligibility.
Award of a compact assistance with its substantial financial resources will allow Guyana to implement major economic infrastructure projects, which will transform the economic landscape by improving competitiveness and reducing poverty, according to a release from Office of the President.
