The Annual GuyOil sponsored Medal Play golf tournament is set for Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Course starting at 12:00 hours.
Most of the country’s top players are registered to compete in what is expected to be the penultimate tournament of the 2008 season.
Secretary of the Lusignan Golf Club Ronald Bulkan said that 2008 was a very hectic year for the club and he expressed gratitude to corporate sponsors who helped in making the tournaments a reality. Bulkan said the weather was kind for most part of the season and even when it rained players were still eager to attend and compete.
This year saw record participation in the Smirnoff sponsored Guyana Open with 72 players competing in the prestigious two-day championships that attracted a large turnout of overseas players from Canada, United States of America and Suriname. However, the local players dominated winning all four flights in the men’s competition as well as the ladies playoff.
Bulkan said that this weekend’s tournament is also expected to be well attended as the season winds down.
Among the players expected to grace the course are Bolaram Deo, Patrick Prashad, Imran Khan, Christine Sukhram, Mike Mangal, Clifford Reis, Ayube Subhan, Colin Ming, Brian Glasford, Maurice Solomon, Joann Deo, Brian Hackett, Bulkan, Jerome Khan, Andre Cummings, Carlos Adams, Dr. Ram Singh, Mike Mangal, Chatterpaul Deo, Gavin Todd, Mark Lashley and Esau Shamshudin.
Representatives of the sponsors are expected to be on hand to assist in the presentation of prizes at the end of the tournament.
