Sports Secretary of the Guyana Teachers Union Coleen Liddell confirmed yesterday that all the districts that participated in last month’s National Schools Athletics Championships can now come and uplift their trophies and medals at the GTU Hall on Woolford Avenue.
This seems to indicate that the earlier decision taken by President of the GTU Colwyn King not to declare the official results has been rescinded.
Liddell, who was speaking with Kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday, said that she was in touch with the various District officials informing them of the latest development and where they can go to receive trophies and medals won by their athletes.
Asked whether the delay in the distribution of trophies and medals had anything to do with earlier media reports which attributed remarks made by the GTU President that stated his unwillingness to release the official results, Liddell said that she was just waiting to get the medals and trophies together, before the start of distribution.
“I have no knowledge of any media reports.” Meanwhile, it would appear that the result which was formally declared by GTU Chairman Seon Bristol is now official. Bristol did confirm that District 10 (Upper Demerara /Kwakwani) had regained the title.
