– elite men’s and women’s competition for Monday
The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in conjunction with the National Sports Commission (NSC) yesterday extended an invitation to players to participate in a ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ Class Open Table Tennis Tournament.
According to a GTTA press release, the competition is scheduled for Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall beginning at 1pm. The release beckoned players from the three classes along with top women and men.
“Prizes in the form of trophies, medals and cash will be given to the first three finishers in each category while a small entrance fee will be charged to each player [upon] entering the tournament,” the release specified.
Friday is the deadline for submission of entries at the sports hall while the specifics of the event were listed as subject to change with notice. A number of rules and regulations to govern the tournament were outlined.
Those regulations included:
(1) Players that win the first three games will be declared the winner;
(2) The tournament will be played utilizing current ITTF rules–11 point game; best of five games; two point’s alternate serve;
(3) Players are required to be at the playing venue at lease 30 minutes in advance of matches;
(4) Players are required to submit their names by Friday, December 5, 2008;
(5) GTTA/NSC will arrange knock up time for players leading up to the tournament;
(6) Each player will be notified of their group and fixtures and time of matches;
(7) Trophies, medals and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three players;
(8) The duration of the tournament will depend on the amount of entries; therefore the scheduled time can be arranged;
(9) An entrance fee will be charged to each player entering the tournament;
(10) Players will be grouped in fours/fives, in some cases, with two players advancing to the second round of the tournament where there will be a cross over;
Meanwhile, the release also pointed out that there will be an invitational Men’s top 16 and Women’s top 8 tournaments on Monday. Players must at least reach the quarterfinals in the NSC competition to be eligible.
