As part of World Aids Day activities on Monday, students of the Essequibo Islands Secondary School (EISS), their teachers and some residents made a 15-mile bicycle ride around the island of Wakenaam. The event was the first of its kind in the community. Most of the students were decked in red t-shirts. The activity was aimed at increasing awareness among residents of the threat of HIV and AIDS.
Public Health Officer and Community Worker, Gary Hinds, demonstrated the use of a variety of condoms that are available and stressed the importance of using them.
The ride around the island began at the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital at 10:00 hrs.
Ranks of the Wakenaam Police Station also participated in the exercise.
