The local Muslim community has issued statements condemning the recent attacks in Mumbai, India, that left nearly 200 people dead and even more injured.
“We condemn these cowardly attacks,” the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) stated.
Added to this, the CIOG requested, “All civic minded people of all races and religions to encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.”
At the same time, a request has also been made to the Pakistani Government to safeguard its citizens from retaliatory attacks, which the CIOG said has taken place after events similar to the recent attacks on Mumbai.
“Guyanese Muslims stand with our fellow citizens of all faiths in repudiating acts of terror,” said the President (ag) of the CIOG, Br Sultan Rahaman. “Wherever they take place, and whosoever they target.”
The CIOG extended condolences to the loved ones of those killed or injured in the recent attacks.
And the Muslim Youth League of Guyana, The Guyana United Sadr Islamic Anjuman, and The Anna Catherina Islamic Complex joined in, “Condemning without reservation the senseless attacks and killings carried out by extremists under the banner of Islam”.
The organizations emphasized that, “This is a heinous crime and an atrocity against all civilized people. This is an act by those who engage in tyranny and oppression all in the name of Islam.
“We echo the voices of all Muslims in condemning suicide bombings and all terrorist acts. Such acts have no place in Islam and must be condemned by all Muslims. Islam rejects and condemns every form of terrorism.
It is not a shade for the justification of any act of violence against humans and humanity, whether committed by an individual, a group or a government.”
The entities expressed to the Government of India their support in, “Hunting down and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this crime. These criminals are traitors to Islam and humanity.
They have brought shame and disgrace to Islam and have declared that in their world there is no room for differences.
In this incident is a lesson for all Muslims, and we must be alarmed, because of the dangers and destruction to country and people when Muslims engage in activities to kill and shed blood. We urge other Muslims and organizations to raise (their) voice of condemnation or it may be too late”.
