Dear Editor,
It is with great disapproval and disgust that I see many ‘organisations’ or small groups of persons standing in the middle of Mandela Avenue with boxes, soliciting money from drivers.
I am going to assume that these ventures are not sanctioned by the police, as they create traffic hazards and congestion, which do not support road safety. Could someone in authority please put an urgent control on these dangerous practices before people get seriously injured?
I would suggest that those groups seeking funding should rethink their strategies and focus on safer and more rewarding events that actually earn donations.
It does not reflect well to see people with banners on the road, walking in front of moving vehicles and pushing boxes ‘begging’ for money in support of some cause.
