Daniel Favourite came to the aid of Festival City twice to lift them to a come from behind win over Broad Street in the feature match on day five of the Guinness ‘Greatest of De Street Football’ tournament which continued on Saturday night at the National Cultural Tarmac.
Another large turn out of spectators graced Saturday’s action with their presence and were again entertained.
Durban Street gained a walk over from Charles Street, Alexander Street, Alexander Village and Globe Yard the other teams winning their encounters. Three matches ended in draws.
In the fast paced game which saw some keen and physical ball, Broad Street took the lead against Festival City in the 9th minute through a Shawn Smith goal.
But two minutes later, Favourite hit in the first of his double to even things up. But Smith was not pleased with that as he gave his team back the lead a mere one minute later, his second goal of the game from an acute angle.
But the Festival City side never gave, equalizing for the second time in the match when Andre Edwards’ sneaked into the small goal. Favourite sealed an exciting result for his team with the game winner in the 26th minute.
Ronson Williams and Lancedale Brown netted one each in Alexander Street’s 2-0 triumph over North East.
Sheldon Gurrick’s lone strike was all that was needed for Alexander Village to overcome Holmes’s Street Tiger Bay in a bruising battle.
Globe Yard prevailed by the odd goal in three over West Front Road. Earl Peters in the 14th and Sherwin Grimes in the 19th minute accounted for the victor’s goals. Michael Oie converted West consolation effort.
Part of the rivalry that unfolded in the Festival City/Broad Street main event on Saturday night at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
Sophia and Leopold Street played to a nil all stalemate, Stevedore Scheme and Aubrey Barker Road steeled for a 2-2 tie. Dillon Eastman and Nelson Pratt scored for the Scheme team while Aubrey Barker Road got theirs from Carl Trusthda and Lloyd Barrow.
Kingston’s Imeal Gomes and Alberttown’s Leon Welcome were the players on target in their 1-1 draw.
The final round of group matches will be played tomorrow evening at the Cultural Centre Tarmac again with the knockout stage set to start later in this week.
