Lionel D’Andrade started his season–ending series in Trinidad and Tobago with an easy win yesterday in the Ladies Chancellor Lill 3km Road Run.
The tested regional campaigner clocked 12:31 to win ahead of Trinidad’s Curtis Cox and Errol Williams respectively, who were timed at 12:50 and 13:02.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport, The Builders Lumber Yard– sponsored D’Andrade said that after he realised that he was not being challenged, he relaxed and allowed his good form to take him to the finish.
“I felt good and didn’t really run hard after I recognised that no one was running with me; I just tucked in and coast,” the athlete said from the island yesterday, adding that the course was hilly and difficult.
“It was a terrible hill. I just kept going up all the time. I never really ran a race like this before,” he said.
The win came on the heel of D’Andrade’s third place finish in the Suriname Marathon last weekend and will boost his confidence ahead of his three remaining races scheduled to begin with an 8km this afternoon.
